Below is a list of serial numbers for Breitling watches both for chronograph models like the Navitimer,chronomat,cosmonaut etc. and also for Breitling non chronograph models as you can see below the serial number range is completely different for the chronograph to the non chronograph models, there are 2 sets of numbers on the case back one is the model or part number which is generally a 3 or 4 digit number and then the serial number,some examples of the models below, after 1978 when Ernest Schneider took over the serial numbers and model number system was totally changed which I'll go into lower down the page Some examples of Breitling model numbers and the model range they are

From 1978 until now As stated earlier from 1978 the number system was totally changed , the new system comprised of a letter followed by 5 numbers, the letter indicated what the watch was made from
The first two numbers after the letter signify which Breitling caliber movement has been used for the watch As stated earlier from 1978 the number system was totally changed , the new system comprised of a letter followed by 5 numbers, the letter indicated what the watch was made from, as an example 13 is the cal 13 (valjoux 7750) or 17 is the cal 17 (ETA 2824) or 12 is a cal 12 (lemania 1873 or 1877) The third number states whether the watch is a certified chronometer , this will be 0 if it is not an independently certified chronometer or 3 if it is a certified chronometer also a 4 and 6 has been used which again shows it is not a certified chronometer The last 2 numbers show the model of the watch as an example the A17605 is a steel Breitling shark automatic non chronometer with eta 2824 movement |

1. Hands attaching points.
The genuine has chrome attaching points in each hand.
The fake has painted attaching points and poor finished. Check the borders of the “T” shape center seconds hand and poor border painting
2. Incorrect inner bezel numbers and text spacing
The text in the genuine watch is centered.
The text in the fake is too close to the crystal gasket
3. Small hands shape
The genuine has sharper edges and perfect finish.

4. Leather strap
The genuine has a flat strap.
The fake has a padded strap (too thick).
5. Hands and dial lume
The genuine has lume on hour markings and hands.
The fake has lume only in hour and minute hands.
6. Deployment buckle
Genuine has only stainless steel engraving
Fake has “BI” incorrect lettering engraving. Poor polished.
